A very busy summer for SMocKing!

I should start by apologizing for not keeping up with all the wonderful SMocKing that happened throughout the summer months.  From rooftop to a beach, to a garden to rockin' out....it was a summer of SMocK.  I am going to do my best in an effort to keep all my SMocKers up to date with the latest of parties and painting mixing....

Yesterday we celebrated a 7th birthday with a rock star theme!  Young SMockers envisioned themselves as hard rockers, displaying their air guitar skills and all.  In the end, they did an amazing job, painting their very unique guitars.  BRAVO, my lovely little ladies.  xoxo, SMocK you.

Hello SMocKers!

I want to express my gratitude and appreciation for the SMocKers who have donated already!  This is a really exciting time.  We are slowly inching our way towards surprising 32 young eager students at UNO Charter School.

A chalk drawing of UNO Charter School

A few weeks ago, I brought a group of my students to UNO in partnership and sponsorship with Do Your P'Art Foundation to create sidewalk chalk drawings.  They were amazing, but more so the students were completely thrilled.  By the end of the day, 60 third grade students were covered in chalk dust, with smiles from ear to ear.

Now imagine yourself as one of these students....how great would it be to have ONE day, just one day....of painting.
Help me SMocK them:)

please DONATE.

SMocKing Students: A good thing to do

Dear fellow SMocKers,
Those of you that have recently visited the blog may have notice a "Donate" Button on the side of the page. I'm on a small little mission and I need your help!!!  As some may know and some are new to the art education world, there are an incredible amount of schools who DO NOT provide any form of the arts to their students.  Chicago Public Schools are in a crisis and leading officials are fighting really hard to hire art teachers at every school. http://www.facebook.com/artsforallchicagoschools.

I have to pleasure of working with a 3rd grade CPS teacher, at UNO Charter School in Humbolt Park where the students are "art deprived".  In this wonderful new school, with these enthusiastic students, it's really hard to understand how something so integral to their growth is not offered.

Well....I wanna SMocK them!!!  I thought to myself, how can I do something more than just throw parties for fun?  How can I use this little idea of having fun with painting and make it a venture that helps others?
That helps kids.
I do this everyday.  I teach art to growing and developing students everyday and I can not imagine not.

So....I want to SMocK them.  I want to transform their classroom into an art studio and as they arrive at school, one early morning...they get SMocKed!  Three hours of painting, learning and having fun with art.

I need your help.  I do not have nearly enough supplies, let alone enough smocks to do this on my own.  There are 32 students in this classroom that would be thrilled and surprised beyond belief for this day.

So, if you find it in your hearts and see the passion and excitement in mine, DONATE.  It doesn't have to be a lot.

5 dollars sponsors the canvas for one student
10 dollars sponsors the canvas and easel
15 dollars sponsors the canvas, easel and the painting supplies
20 dollars sponsors the canvas, easel, the painting supplies and the smock :)

Help me SMocKers....pay it forward and then we can have a SMocK party to celebrate.  I promise :-)

If you do choose to DONATE, please email me your name and address as so you can receive something special in the mail and of course an invitation to the SMocK party celebration!  No need to tell me your donation amount...I don't care:)

Hello fellow "SMocKers"!
A wonderful opportunity as come up for SMocK!  SMocK is now a part of an auction fundraiser for a local Chicago school.  Franklin Fine Arts Center, located in Old Town, focuses on the inclusion of art throughout their curriculum.  Simply wonderful.  Check out their website and join in on the fun.  Get your SMocK on Thursday, June 14th between 7 and 10!

Also, my brain has been churning all day with ideas of how to spread the word, the fun and the SMocK.  Please Help!  If you are planning your child's birthday party or just want a fun way to get together with friends, contact me.

The day after....

Good Morning Smockers!

Last night was the official start to SMOCK.  The evening began with some socializing over champagne and appetizers but slowing moved into painting masterpieces.  The genre for the first SMOCK party was still life and what better still life than the intimidating cupcake.  Inspired by the painting of artist Wayne Thiebaud, SMOCKERS observed, studying and taste tested what was soon to be their charming works of art. Each SMOCKER used their own unique talents to create a painting that really captured their own personalities.

It was a wonderful evening full of...'highlights'.  Brushes were dropped on the carpet, champagne was spilled in the paint, freestylers were dancing and funny stories were shared.  As I look at the SMOCK Studio, right at this moment, I sigh joyful relief.  Who really wants to clean up such a wonderful mess.....
